Your Body and Weight Loss

Healthy diet for a healthy life

Your body is a very complex machine, and one which is uniquely yours.

Maintain it well and it should keep working for a long time. If you don’t look after it, things can start to go wrong; small at first, but potentially snowballing into something serious.

Whilst people’s bodies are similar in many ways, they are different enough that no one thing works for everyone. Any nutrition and weight loss plan needs to be customised for the individual.

Physiology and essential nutrients

Physiology is the science of how living organisms work; in this circumstance, human beings. The human body needs a wide variety of nutrients to keep working efficiently, including;

Vitamins

Vitamins help form many essential enzymes, or act as anti-oxidants to clear free radicals and toxins.

Minerals

Macro and trace minerals are crucial for many of the compounds your body needs to work properly.

Proteins

Every cell in your body contains protein, and they are important for growth, health and body maintenance.

Healthy Fats

The right fats help many body functions, from vitamin and mineral absorption to cell creation and muscle movement.

Carbohydrates

An important source of energy, but also brain and nervous system function and disease protection.

Water

Water is vital for all your body's systems. It helps carry nutrients to where they are needed, and to flush away toxins.

Some of these are used directly by the human body. Many others are converted into energy, or are essential components for required types of chemical compounds such as;

Amino acids

Enzymes

Hormones

Nucleotides

Lipids

We need a healthy diet

Generally, the essential raw materials for the body’s operation are provided by a proper nutritious diet. As we all know, however, this is not as easy as it seems for two reasons.

  1. It is not always clear what, exactly, constitutes a “nutritious diet”. This is especially the case when we factor in our individual lifestyles, habits, and personal body chemistry.
  2. The foods we have available may not supply all the nutrients we require. This is often due to a natural lack of essential minerals available in the environment, or soil depletion by long-term farming practices.

Your body does specific things with these nutrients and compounds for a reason. Understanding how and why opens the opportunity to direct it towards the outcomes you want, be it wellness or weight loss. This can be through;

  • Eating the right foods at the right times.
  • Ensuring your body receives the nutrients it requires.
  • Suitable exercise.
  • Drinking enough water.

All you need to manage your body is knowledge and motivation. This weight loss program supplies both.
